Azienda Agricola Croce di Febo - Maurizio & Enrico Comitini
Croce di Febo is a small biodynamic company, led by the artisan winemakers Maurizio and Enrico, in Montepulciano in southern Tuscany.
Just over 4 hectares of vines are cultivated on two "Clos" with exceptional terroirs:
• “Pietra” at 450 meters on Pliocene calcareous clays.
• "Cappuccini" at 500 meters above sea level on calcareous clays of the Mesozoic.
In 2007 it obtained the Organic Wine certification and in 2020 the Biodyvin certification, for biodynamic viticulture.
The link with the territory is sanctioned by the centrality of the indigenous vines, Sangiovese in primis but also Malvasia, Trebbiano, Canaiolo, Mammolo and Ciliegiolo.
Soil fertility is managed with grassing, green manure, horn-manure, following the Maria Thun method, and limiting the use of the tractor.
In the vineyard, the natural defenses of the vines are favored by administering herbal teas, decoctions and horn-silica, and limiting the use of copper and sulfur.
The work approach in the company is tailored and respectful of the environment and biodiversity, the management of the entire cycle of the vines, from pruning to harvesting, is strictly done by hand.
In the cellar only spontaneous fermentations, no clarification or filtration and the use of sulfur dioxide is extremely modest.
At Croce di Febo grapes are not purchased and each of the approximately 20,000 bottles produced each year is made from grapes grown with our work on our own vineyards.
We like elegant and clean wines, but not approved by chemistry, capable of expressing the vineyard of origin and the single vintage with character and identity.
