5:30 Wines to Grow - Emanuela Conversano & Giovanni Pugliese

Emanuela and Giovanni are undergoing field training to bottle the spirit of a place: a small, old bush-trained vineyard in Gioia del Colle, in the La Coticcia district, along the saddle separating the Alta and Bassa Murgia. It's a traditional mixed vineyard, predominantly Primitivo, but with scattered vines of ancient varieties. In the vineyard, they practice green manure and non-invasive cultivation, and harvests are always done by hand, with careful bunch selection. In the cellar, fermentations are spontaneous, without the use of additives or invasive practices, and very low amounts of sulfites are used before bottling. They don't have a winery of their own, which is why they embraced the Jazzile project. Today, they also share the management of two other small vineyards in the Itria Valley with other members of the Jazzile network. The journey is long, but an early start can help!
