Domaine Milan - Emma, Théophile & Henri Milan
Located in Saint Rémy de Provence, north of the Alpilles mountain range, Domaine MILAN was created in 1956 by Robert Milan, and later taken over by his son Henri in 1986. From the start, Henri Milan had great ambitions for the domain. He has always been passionate about wines and wanted to make wines with respect for nature. Henri had the intuition that his terroir was made of a wide variety of mineral layers which was confirmed by Claude Bourguignon, famous microbiologist, who analyzed the plot of "la carrée" in April 1996. This allowed to highlight the terroir of blue marls, similar to the terroirs of Jura and Chablis whose potential to produce great white wines is well established. In addition, it was also in 1996 that Henri met the Sologne winegrower, Claude Courtois of the Domaine des Cailloux du Paradis, that he realized that he had to run his estate according to the principles of Biodynamics. After several years of work, in 2000 Domaine Milan produced its first vintage without added sulphites. Surrounded by an increasingly large team including Sébastien Xavier in the cellar, and Dominique Carsy in head of culture, Henri was able, little by little, to revive his terroir. Today, the wines produced by Domaine MILAN seem to express more and more this Provençal terroir. Now, Henri surrounded by his children Emmanuelle and Théophile who are continuing the work started 30 years ago, the Milan estate is entering a new era. In the vines, after having gone from conventional cultivation to organic and then biodynamic cultivation, we can easily see the differences that exist between these methods of conventional chemical cultivation, and that respectful of nature and the soil, not only through renewal. of a terroir but also on the health impact of the vines which today make it possible to produce great wines.
