Château Peylaby - Blandine & Jérémy Borde
Blandine and Jérémy Borde grew up in the vineyards and took over the family property from Jérémy's grandparents in 2015. Attached to
sustainable agriculture, they
take the decision to lead Château Peylaby in organic farming in 2018. Working in harmony with nature allows them to reveal the typical expression of the Médoc terroirs. This is expressed in their first vintage, the creation of a wine in their image begins.
Château Peylaby is located in the commune of Saint Germain d'Esteuil in AOC Médoc. The plots are located in three municipalities: Saint Germain d'Esteuil, Ordonnac and Saint-Yzans-de-Médoc. There is a clay-limestone, gravelly and sandy-loamy soil.
The vines are grassed naturally, or with annual sowing and enriched with local manure as well as plant manure. For example, sowing fava beans between the rows provides covered soil in the spring and will bring beneficial nutrients to the vines the rest of the season.
Château Peylaby is a pioneer of sustainable practices in AOC Médoc.
During the vegetative period, biodynamic practices are implemented to improve the resistance of the vine to pests.
Obviously, the musts are vinified without any input, with indigenous yeasts. The aging takes place according to the cuvée, in stainless steel vats, in amphorae and in 400-litre barrels. If necessary, filtration takes place before bottling.
Since August 2021, the conversion to organic farming has been successfully completed. Next step: consider the steps to lead Château Peylaby towards certification in biodynamic viticulture (Demeter).
