Tim Wildman MW is a British Master of Wine, filmmaker, winemaker and self-described pét-nat obsessive who has spent over a decade championing pétillant natural wines in Australia. His label, Wildman Wine, is best known for the cult favourites Astro Bunny and Piggy Pop—playful, low-intervention sparkling wines made from Mediterranean grape varieties grown in South Australia. In 2024, Wildman achieved a major milestone, both wines were produced from 100% certified organic and biodynamic grapes for the first time, marking a significant step in his commitment to growing and winemaking naturally.
Wildman’s first vintage of Astro Bunny was in 2014, when only a handful of producers were making pét-nat in Australia, and he quickly established himself as a pioneer of the category. This first vintage of Astro Bunny was a from a single block of old vine Grenache in McLaren Vale, but all subsequent vintages have been made from a blend of climate appropriate, Mediterranean varieties from McLaren Vale, the Adelaide Hills and the Riverland. These include Fiano, Arneis, Zibibbo and Malvasia Bianca for the whites and Nero d’Avola, Lagrein, Montepulciano, Prieto Picudo and Aglianico for the reds. Over the years, his pét-nats have become synonymous with Australia’s natural wine movement, recognised for their vibrant fruit, soft fizz, clean fault-free character and irreverent branding and marketing.
The 2024 vintage marked a turning point for Wildman Wine. After a three-year long process involving growers, winemakers, and logistics partners, Wildman secured organic certification from Australian Certified Organic (ACO). This achievement required coordination across the entire supply chain, from vineyards in McLaren Vale and the Riverland to the winery in the Adelaide Hills and the export warehouse in Adelaide. Wildman’s wines are distributed to sixteen different countries internationally, with availability in the UK, USA, Canada, Scandinavia, and across South East Asia and Australasia. He divides his time between Europe and Australia, expanding his activities with projects like “Lost in a Field,” an English pét-nat made from heritage grape varieties.
