Alluria Wines - Samvel Machanyan
Alluria is a family owned and operated winery in Vagharshapat, Armavir region, Republic of Armenia.
We have presented Alluria commercial wines on the 02nd of December 2016. Until that date we were making wine just for our family. Wine-making has been a family tradition since I remember myself, and we were making wine naturally. My grandfather, and then my father did not use commercial yeasts and any kind of SO2, so we thought that that is how you make wine.
When me and my brother grew older, we "took" the wine-making for the family into our hands. In 2013 me and my brother made our own oak chips from oak wood parquets, and made our first "oak aged" wine, and that was the first wine that I chose to show to some strangers, to understand if they like it.
Because we received many good feedback, we decided to start commercializing it.
The idea and philosophy behind Alluria wines is to make an impression.
Firstly we really want people who drink our wines remember them. We are working hard to make sure that they have a positive impressions, but there are people who do not like natural wines.
Secondly we want to show our family's way of making wine, so we did not hire a winemaker, but me and my brother got into Yerevan Wine Academy EVN, and got those academic knowledge on wine-making and wine-business, and we stick into the idea of wild or spontaneous fermentation of the grape.
We believe that wine is a drink with feelings, and it encapsulates the emotions that it has around it from the vineyards to the cellar, that is why we tend to have only family working during the vintage. We also invite my grandmothers friends, to help us out during the vintage. :)
At this moment we own only some part of the grape that we process, and most of the other parts we buy from vineyards around. Only two grape varieties we buy from another regions.
