When you combine great wisdom in the art of winemaking with extreme care of the vineyard ecosystem, you manage to produce impeccable wines whose high quality is reflected in the great care for the environment that nourishes the grapes.
These are the secrets of Tenuta La Novella, an altitude biodynamic winery that has been producing wines of the highest quality since 1998.
Located among the hills that separate the Chianti Classico from the Valdarno, a few kilometers south of Florence, Tenuta La Novella extends over almost 200 hectares, in which 13.5 hectares of vineyards and 20 hectares of olive groves are embraced and supported by extensive woods rich in biodiversity.
These characteristics, combined with the altitude between 4 and 600 meters above sea level, allow us to give life to our creations by intervening as little as possible: our wines are born from what the vineyards want to tell us, not from what we want to impose on them .
Our soils of marl and sandstone enhance the most vibrant expression of Sangiovese, flanked by a smaller proportion of Syrah and Viognier with a surprising character.
The harvests are carried out entirely by hand, after multiple selections aimed at harvesting only the grapes that reach our quality standards.
In the cellar, the grapes undergo a further selection to guarantee an impeccable health condition which allows us to accompany the transformation into wine without altering its authentic expression. Lots with common characteristics are vinified and aged separately, to then be assembled only before bottling.
Spontaneous fermentations, absence of clarifications and oenological artifices, combined with the wise use of materials that do not alter the aromatic palette of the wines (steel, cement, stoneware and large, very lightly toasted barrels) are the basis for the creation of a varied and balanced range of fine, elegant wines, rich in character.
