Hey my name is Niklas Rückrich, I'm a young winegrower from Eckelsheim in good old Rheinhessen Germany. I'm the 4th generation of our family winery - 14 hectares in total, organic farming (in conversion - certified in 2025) on volcanic soil - porphyr. The grapes are picked by hand, fermented spontaneously in new and old oak (barriques, tonneaux), stainless steel and also fiberglass (depending on the wine), bottled after a minimum of 11 months on the lies without filtration, fining and low to no adds of sulphur, just healthy grapes and time. I’m focusing on traditional varieties of my region, like Riesling, burgundy grape varieties, Chardonnay, Silvaner and Co. My production started in 2021 with less than 1 hectare and continue in 2022 with around 2 hectares. I did a apprenticeship of 2 years as winegrower in the Rheinhessen valley at 3 different wineries, afterward 3 years of studies at Geisenheim University, while studies internships at Weingut Wagner Stempel in Rheinhessen, Pranzegg in Alto Adige, Weingut Ziereisen in Baden Valley. We are the western located Part of Rheinhessen and we are nearby to the border of the Nahe valley. So we are lucky cause it's a way cooler than like Wonnegau (Westhofen) and also like Nierstein which is directly at the Rhine. So we are a way later in harvest, depending on the year it's about 1-1,5 weeks later than the other parts of Rheinhessen. Otherwise we are also one of the driest regions in whole Germany. Our soil is embossed of our really rare volcanic soil - porphyr. The predominantly stony and gravelly weathering products of the porphyr (approx. 285 million years old), which is approximately 1.0-1.5 m deep, are covered by loess clay in the sense of decalcified and weathered loess. This supports our wines with really special and rare identity which reflect the wines with a nice salinity and herby character.
