My name is Luis Gil, I am a winemaker in Portugal, in Óbidos, a small Doc in the Lisbon region, near the Atlantic. My Domaine is Marinho. I started this project in 2017, when I started renting some old vineyards in my village, and I made my first harvest that year. Today I manage 4 hectares of old vineyards between 55 and 130 years old, with a total of 8 plots. All the vineyards are on limestone soils (Jurassic plateau). From the beginning all farming is organic/biodynamic, (small amounts of sulphur and copper and infusions for treatments if necessary) and all plots have been abandoned for several years. On each vineyard I have no neighbours, no farmers, so all are isolated. All the work is done by hand, both in the vineyards and in the cellar. In the cellar I only use barrels for fermentation and ageing of the wines. There are no stainless steel tanks or vats, all the transferring and bottling is done by gravity. During the harvest, all grapes are picked bunch by bunch in the vineyard, and the grapes are transported in 12 kg crates. I have never used sulphites, at any time! I have no organic/ biodynamic certification.
