The wine project at the Herrenhof is pretty new. I started to recultivate this perfect slope in the year 2006 completely from zero. That's my mission! Everything is harvested by the hand of course. What makes me a special wine grower? > I ferment 100% in barrels > 50% of my barrels are made of wood from my own forest. Only very few can do that. > after fermentation the wines stay on their lees till bottling > Prior bottling I just about 20mg of Sulphur or less, or nothing, it depends on the wine. So you can imagine, that my wines are pretty raw! My name ist Gottfried Lamprecht. I am the head behind „HERRENHOF LAMPRECHT". The estate belonged to a monastery many decades ago. My aim is to recultivate this perfect slope for wine growing. Lucky me, I could start this from zero (there was no vine anymore!!) in the year 2006. Now I can call myself a proud natural working winemaker. I've never worked in a different way. Never! The main thing I always wanted is to "put" this place, where I grew up - the HERRENHOF, the slope, just everything, into a bottle of wine. Isn't that a great idea, that a vine can reflect a specific terroir at its best and for many, many years? I love this idea.. In 2006, they started planting vines again on this first-class, south-facing site. The assortment is small, but absolutely aligned and adapted to the prevailing soil. The soils are mostly very light and consist of calcareous sandstones, sand, silt and some gravel. Pinot blanc and Furmint are the dominant grape varieties. Furmint used to be known as the "Mosler" in Styria. As a special favourite of the winemaker, an absolutely traditional white Styrian Gemischter Satz with over 100 (some even ancient) grape varieties is cultivated (Buchertberg Weiss). The wines are all matured in wooden barrels - about 50% even in wood from their own forest. The wines are matured slowly and gently. Unnecessary fining and filtration are avoided. "This is the only way to produce wines that make their origin absolutely tasteable and transport the potential of the Buchertberg!" says Gottfried Lamprecht. The winery has been certified organic since 2007, but does not concern itself with esoteric ideas.
