Our winery is located in Schloßberg near Leutschach/Styria/Austria near the Slovenian border at an altitude of 380 m. Our vineyard covers a size of 5.8 ha with the vineyard name Hohenegg. The height difference is around 70 m, from 380 – 450 m above sea level. The soil is a calcareous marl soil with sandy loams and loamy sands — Also called Opok in colloquial language.
6 white grape varieties (Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Welschriesling, Roter Traminer) and 3 red grape varieties (Blaufränkisch, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon) are grown.
We have been working biodynamically since 2005 and have been Demeter certified since 2010, and we are also a member of the Taste the Life group.
The vineyards have a steepness of up to over 50% and are laid out in the fall line .
Plant protection and mulching are done with the tractor.
The soil is not opened.
Between and under the vines there is up to 70 different natural vegetation Plants.
The grapes are harvested by hand in small boxes weighing up to 25 kg.
The selection of the grapes also takes place by hand in the vineyard.
Only our own grapes are processed.
Wine cellar:
The grapes are destemmed and usually lightly crushed.
Fermentation with natural yeast without additives.
All wines undergo natural biological acid degradation and fermentation and mature in wooden barrels.
There is no temperature control.
Primarily small wooden barrels with a capacity of 225 l and 300 l are used.
The wines are aged 1 to 3 Years in the barrels.
The red wines and the mash-fermented white wines are in contact with the mash for the period of alcoholic fermentation. (8 - 14 days)
The wines are brewed twice. (No filtration)
Treatments and additives:
Only sulfur addition from 0 to 20 mg/l - nothing else.
