Mondovino was released worldwide on May 17, 2004 at the Cannes Film Festival, competing for the Palme d'Or. The wine world had few critical speakers at a time when social media did not exist. Everything revolved around Parker scores, signature wines, opulence and the star-system of the winemaker. Money and prestige were in motion, hidden behind a supposed defense of the terroir. Jonathan Nossiter, with his critical and naked gaze, generated with Mondovino a debate on the homogenization of wine flavors and the impact of large corporations on viticultural and oenological practices. His focus was on the figure of a flying winemaker, very respected and recognized worldwide. The documentary revolutionized the pillars of wine, giving a much-needed boost to artisan winegrowers and natural winemaking that did defend a real landscape inside the bottle. It gave visibility to a movement that had been claiming its place and reality for years, the natural wine movement. Since then, the movement has gone from being a marginal subculture to a global phenomenon that has transformed the way we understand and consume wine. At PVN we want to take advantage of this anniversary to give visibility and a voice to those who have been part of this story, and who will give their opinion on how the documentary influenced them at the time and the changes that have occurred in the last 20 years.
