The estate is located in the commune of Lucey, a small village in the Savoyard foothills nestled between the Rhône and Lake Bourget. The calm and beauty of the landscapes that surround them invite them to take care of these terroirs that they are lucky enough to promote.
The estate represents 6.7 hectares of vines that they work in line with their lifestyle choices. Altesse, Mondeuse and Pinot Noir are produced with a different approach and perspective for each vintage, reflecting their identity and their terroir.
Domaine de Lucey is first and foremost Erwan Buchwalter's project. He is the one who takes care of the vines and the wines. It is a long road that leads Erwan from his native Franche-Comté to Lucey. After obtaining a BTS in Dairy Industry at ENIL (Ecole Nationale d'Industrie Laitière) in Besançon Mamirolle, Erwan works at the Fruitière des Perrières in Les Gets as a cheesemaker. In 2007, he left with his partner, Anne-Cécile Pflieger, for Canada where he worked for 4 years as a cheesemaker at Little Qualicum Cheeseworks in Parksville, British Columbia. In 2013, he returned to his country, to Haute-Saône, with his family.
For a few years now, Erwan has been growing tired of the cheese factory and is looking to do something else. In 2016, he completed a BTS in viticulture and oenology in Rouffach in Alsace. “Milk, cheese, vines, wine, it’s the same principle, the transformation of agricultural products through fermentation”. It’s the start of a new adventure where he is closer to nature and has mastered all of his work.
After more than five years learning the trade at Domaine Valentin Zusslin, a biodynamic estate since 1997 in Orschwihr in Alsace, followed by two years of searching for the perfect location, the family headed to Savoie, on the banks of Lac du Bourget, in Lucey, where they established themselves as winegrowers.
His partner, for her part, has already had a communications company (graphic design and photography) for several years. It is therefore quite natural that everyone takes their place in this new project. Erwan has his nose in the earth and wines. Anne-Cécile creates their brand identity and the various essential communication tools.
